Study of Dynamics and characteristics and Control technique of Mechanical pendulum
Abstract
In this article, the characteristics and dynamics of a mechanical pendulum have been investigated. The originality of our setup is the use of a metal strip, steel sphere, and the development of extremely sensitive electric measurements of the pendulum velocity and period (with microsecond accuracy). Their high accuracy is necessary for calculating and choosing reliable reference values of the pendulum. Because estimating stable reference working amplitude of the pendulum is very important from a control point of view. Moreover, the main target of this thesis is to control the mechanical pendulum keeping constant swinging amplitude with high accuracy when it is oscillating in air, which has damping force proportional to the velocity of the pendulum. In addition, it has some damping on its strip because the strip is in bending on support and stretching due to centrifugal and gravity forces that induce high stress on the wire during its swinging. That’s why a small part of the energy of the system is converted to heat. Obtained measurement data has been compared with the theoretical value.
